Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his team followed a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, over half a second off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
