19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized the Russian player won his first championship for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging period, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former mentor his previous coach.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's first title following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since that period of that year.

Success also signifies the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one different events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my children together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

His retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the last five games to go ahead.

The pair traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden professional championship, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet defended 4 initial chances in a tight final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
